TRIAL FLIGHTS

For many people, their only experience of flying in any aircraft has been travelling abroad on their annual holiday or perhaps business trips. As a way of introducing people to "Light Aviation" the Edinburgh Flying Club offers Trial Flights.

The purpose of a trial flight is to let people experience flying in a typical single engine Club aircraft. At Edinburgh Flying Club we conduct all out trial flights in four seat aircraft. This allows you to possibly take a friend or family member with you when you have your first flight. Please note that although the aircraft are 4 seater aircraft, only the pilot and 2 persons can be carried due to weight restrictions, so only one friend or family member is possible. The minimum age to fly our aircraft on trial flights is 14 years. Please call the club if you have any queries.

A typical trial flight will begin with your Instructor for the day giving a short briefing about how the aeroplane flies and the effect of the various flight controls. Once in the aeroplane you will be shown the various controls and given a safety briefing.

Your flight will be of either 40 minutes or one hour duration, during which you will be shown how the flight controls work and encouraged to fly the aeroplane yourself.

Be assured you will not be forced to handle the controls if you feel uncomfortable. The purpose of the flight is to let you experience the sensations and views that are obtained from light aircraft. In fact the flight is often referred to as an Air Experience Flight rather than a formal lesson.

The flights are conducted within a radius of approximately 45 miles from Edinburgh Airport. If you have a wish to see a particular area, such as your house from the air, then every effort will be made to accommodate this.

The cost of a trial flight is:-

£169 for a 40 minute flight and
£215 for a 1 hour flight.

If you wish to purchase a Trial Flight, you initially purchase a Trial Flight Voucher. You can either use the voucher yourself or give it to someone as a present. The voucher holder then telephones the Clubhouse and makes a booking for the flight.
It is important to realise that as the purpose of a Trial flight is to give you an enjoyable experience, so they are only flown during daylight hours when the weather is suitable.
