OUR AEROPLANES
Edinburgh Flying Club operates four aeroplanes. Two are normally used for training,
and two are used for trial flights. However a Club member may fly any of the aeroplanes
provided they have been authorised to do so by the Chief Flying Instructor.
The main training aeroplane is a Piper Tomahawk, with the registration G-BNNU.
This is a two seat, low wing, all metal construction aeroplane which was designed
and built as a basic trainer. It has a 112 hp engine and a cruising speed of
approximately 90-95 knots.
There are weight restrictions in place for flying this aircraft. Where appropriate
the flying training is conducted using our Piper Warrior aeroplane.
The Piper Warrior , registered G-BPFH is a larger aeroplane with four seats.
Having a 160hp engine it is capable of carrying a greater weight. Although often
thought of as touring aeroplanes, Piper Warriors are routinely used as trainers
throughout the World.
The Piper Archer, registered G-BNGT, is also a four seat aeroplane. Similar to the
Piper Warrior but boasting a 180hp engine, this aeroplane is very well equipped with
full instrumentation and navigation equipment. This makes it a very capable aeroplane
and is ideally suited for longer flights such as touring Europe.
The Cessna 172, registered G-BMCI is also a four seat aeroplane. Being a 'high wing'
aeroplane it provides the rear passengers with an excellent view of the ground,
and this makes it ideal for Trial Flights . Although not quite as well equipped
as the Piper Warrior and Archer, several Pilots chose to fly the Cessna once they
have attained their Private Pilots Licence.
